Fertilisers

 

BONE MEAL              

Slow acting Phosphate Manure, 2oz per sq. yd. Feeds all vegetables, grass, flowers and bulbs.

 

LIME                           

Improves quality of soil and acts as a small fertiliser. Brings together other plant foods in soil into solution.

 

SOOT       

Warms soil. Is a Nitrogenous fertiliser and acts as an Insecticide.

 

GROWMORE             

Contains 7% each of :- Nitrogen, Phosphates, and Potash.  Suitable for all garden vegetables and flowers as a top dressing only. It must not touch the roots.

 

NITRO CHALK          

Nitrogen Fertiliser, supplies certain amount of Lime. Good summer top dressing for most vegetables and fruits. Improves soil that is inclined to be Acid.

 

SULPHATE OF  AMMONIA.       

Nitrogenous fertiliser for use at sowing time and early in  the growing season.

 

SULPHATE OF  POTASH   

Potassic  fertiliser.  Fairly quick acting. May be used at any season for general use.  Vegetables and Fruit ½  - 1 oz per square yard, use as a top dressing. It can be pricked in.

 

SUPERPHOSPHATE 

Does not contain any free Lime.  Good for Broad Beans and any Root crop.  Can be mixed with Sulphate of Amonia and SulphateOf Potash. Recipe is :- Super = 4 parts, Ammonia = 3 parts, Potash = 2 parts  Good for potatoes. Apply before planting 5oz per square yard. Or in Spring or early Summer 1oz per square yard.

 

 

Vegetable Feeding

 

BEANS – BROAD & FRENCH     

Bone Meal 2oz per square yard.  When beans are 2” long apply Superphosphate – 1oz per square yard.

 

RUNNER BEANS       

When they begin to climb, give Sulphate of Ammonia – 1oz per square yard.

 

BEET                           

Should be fed with Agricultural Salt and Sulphate of Potash alternately ½ tsp per plant.

 

BROCCOLI                 

Before planting put 8oz per square yard of Lime and 1oz pf Potash when plants are going ahead after planting give dressing mix of

Sulphate of Ammonia       1 part

Sulphate of Potash           1 part

Superphosphate               3 parts

Give dressing of Nitro Chalk when heads start to form.

 

BRUSSELL SPROUT  Give above mixture 6 weeks after planting. In mid August

 

CABBAGE

For late summer planting 1pz per sq yard of Sulphate of Ammonia.  In March Nitro Chalk. Also the same mix for Sprouts.

 

CAULIFLOWER         

2 weeks after planting, dress with Nitro Chalk, 1oz per sq yard and repeat after 3 weeks.

 

LETTUCE          

Before sowing, rake in 2oz per sq yard of :

Superphosphate  - 2 parts

Sulphate Ammonia - 1 part

Sulphate Potash – 1 part

 

ONIONS   

         

During the growing season give 2 applications of Superphosphate 1oz per sq yard at 2 week then Sulphate Potash each week – ½ oz Per sq yard until onions ripen.

 

PEAS                            

Superphosphate     - 3 parts)                        

Potash                   - 2 parts) – DRY MIX

Ammonia               - 1 part )

                            

Scatter in trench before sowing ½ oz per sq yard of trench with Ammonia.  When growing give Superphosphate 2oz per sq yard. Repeat this when flowers are forming.

 

RADISH             

Give dressing of Sulphate of Ammonia – 1oz per sq yard when roots begin to swell.

 

SAVOY                        

Feed as cabbages.

 

POTATOES                

When planting potatoes – put in bottom of each trench the following:-

Superphosphate     - 3 parts)

Potash                   - 2 parts) – DRY MIX

Ammonia               - 1 part )
